The goal of special education is to place a child into regular classrooms whenever possible. This presents a new set of problems, as most non-disabled children don’t realize how difficult it is for disabled children to perform even the simplest tasks. And what children don’t understand, they reject.
Kids on the Block provides disability awareness and breaks through discrimination barriers. It provides the opportunity students need to explore the world of the disabled through puppetry. Based on the responses of the children, teachers, and parents, as well as the waiting lists of schools requesting performances, it is a very effective program.
